Whatever You Do

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Insight

The older I get the more habitual I have become.

I wake up in the morning, turn on the coffee pot, drink a glass of water, grab my coffee, and then go straight to my chair for my quiet time.  Then dressed and off to work.  I talk to my daughter on the ride and my day is underway.

I am sure my days are like yours with more mundane moments than exciting ones.

Life isn’t often a roller coaster, even though we treat it that way.  Every day turns into jumping to the next best thing.  We get impatient waiting in line, only to get on the ride of new circumstances. Rather than staying seated, enjoying ourselves and being present in that moment, our minds begin to drift to hopping on the next ride. We can’t wait to get to the next moment because we reason that it’s going to be so much bigger and better than what we’re experiencing right now.

The ability to enjoy what God has given us in each moment can be a struggle. Scripture tells us to do everything for God’s glory, yet our daily routine and the mundaneness it brings cause us to believe we are doing very little for His glory and His kingdom.

But what if we could see things differently, and be intentional about the moment by redirecting our thoughts to the truth that God has purposed us to capture in those precise everyday, ordinary moments?

We desire to somehow celebrate Him with really big things.  But we also struggle to find time each day to “squeeze Him in” for our much-needed quiet time, which is why I love how the Apostle Paul reminds us that “whether you eat or drink” is an opportunity to glorify God.

If we can capture the moment and stay in it by finding Him there without turning the page, we will be in an amazing relationship with our Father. Let's live each day with the full understanding that every person we meet, every dish we wash, every diaper we change provides us a blank page to create a story that can bring God greater glory.  That really does sound wonderful.

Reflection

  • What would your relationship with Christ look like if you invited Him into your entire day, one moment at a time?

  • How can you find ways to see your routine schedule as an opportunity for worship?

Prayer

Thank you, Father, that You desire our presence even while doing our everyday tasks.  Thank you that we can reach out to You with everything we can give even if it seems very small.  Help us to crave You in our everyday lives. Strengthen our relationship so that all we do brings You glory. Amen.
