Shaky Steps

And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast, about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Insight

I remember learning to walk as a toddler. Well, I don’t actually remember it, but I’ve seen the home videos. There’s something so raw and pure about a child taking those first shaky steps. They’re holding onto their parents' fingers, not trying to prove anything but simply trusting that their parents won’t let them fall.

That’s us with God. Our walk with Him isn’t about showing how strong or capable we are. It’s about leaning into His grace and letting that grace empower each step we take.

Now, if there’s one thing we tend to avoid, it’s boasting about our weaknesses.

We live in a culture that glorifies self-sufficiency, hustle, and the grind. We’re taught to hide our flaws and put our best foot forward. But what if the key to truly walking with God is admitting that we can’t do it on our own?

Let’s be real for a second. How often do we try to muscle through life on our own strength?

We think if we just try harder, and push a little more, we can make it happen. But God is inviting us to something radically different. He’s inviting us to rest in His grace, to find our strength in His power.

So, what does this look like in real life?

Maybe it means acknowledging that we’re struggling with fear or doubt and asking God to help us trust Him more. Maybe it’s admitting that we can’t break a bad habit on our own and need His power to overcome it. Maybe it’s recognizing that we’re burnt out from trying to do everything ourselves and need His grace to give us rest.

Grace isn’t just a nice idea; it’s the fuel for our faith journey.

It’s what allows us to take that next step of faith, no matter how uncertain or weak we feel. When we embrace our weaknesses, we create space for God’s power to move in and through us.

Reflection

  • Think about those moments when you knew it wasn’t your strength that got you through but His. How have you experienced God’s grace in your walk of faith?

  • In what areas of your life do you need to trust more in God’s grace rather than your own abilities?

Prayer

Lord, thank you for your abundant grace that enables me to walk with you. Help me to trust in your strength and not my own. Guide my steps each day as I rely on your grace. Amen.
