Without Faith

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6

Insight

I remember sitting on a beach one evening, staring out at the vast, unending horizon. The sky was painted in shades of pink and orange as the waves made their way to the shore. At that moment, I felt a nudge deep in my soul—a sense that God was asking me to take a step, to move in a direction that scared me. I knew it was Him, yet my heart wrestled with fear and uncertainty.

Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever sensed God asking you to do something, to take a step of faith, and yet found yourself paralyzed by doubt? Maybe it's a career change, a relationship, or even a simple act of kindness that feels out of your comfort zone. Whatever it is, that nudge is a call to trust, a call to reveal our faith through our actions.

Today’s verse reminds us that our faith pleases God. But what does that look like in our everyday lives? How do we take steps that reveal our trust in Him?

First, we need to listen. Really listen. In our fast-paced world, it's so easy to drown out God's voice with noise—social media, work, even our own thoughts. But God often speaks in a still, small voice, a whisper that requires us to slow down and pay attention. So, take a moment each day to quiet your heart and listen. Ask God what He wants you to do, and be open to His leading.

Once we’ve heard from God, the next step is to act. This is where the rubber meets the road. It's one thing to feel a nudge or hear a whisper; it's another to move forward in faith. This could mean having that difficult conversation you’ve been avoiding or extending forgiveness to someone who’s hurt you. These actions, big or small, are steps of faith that show we trust God’s plan more than our understanding.

Finally, we need to let go of the outcome. This is perhaps the hardest part. When we take steps of faith, we're not guaranteed a specific result. But that’s the beauty of trust—it’s about surrendering control and believing that God is good, no matter what happens. It’s about knowing that even if things don’t go as planned, God’s plans are always better.

So, what is God asking you to do today? What steps can you take that reveal your trust in Him? Maybe it’s something small, like reaching out to a friend who’s struggling. Maybe it’s something big, like moving to a new city or taking steps to pursue a dream God placed on your heart. Whatever it is, remember that your faith pleases God. He sees your steps, your effort, your heart. And He delights in you.

Reflection

  • Is there something you sense God has asked you to do?

  • Are there steps you can take that reveal trust?

Prayer

Lord, help me to listen to Your still, small voice amidst the noise of this world. Give me the courage to take steps of faith, even when I feel uncertain or afraid. And as I move forward, help me to trust in Your goodness and sovereignty, knowing that Your plans for me are always for my good and Your glory. Amen.
