Strive For

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11

Insight

In these words from the Apostle Paul, we find a simple yet profound exhortation to guide our daily lives as followers of Christ. His words beautifully capture the essence of Christian living in just a few sentences. So, let's dive into each of these elements and discover how they can shape our spiritual journey and our relationships with one another.

Brothers and Sisters

Paul opens up by reminding us of our identity that as brothers and sisters in Christ, we are part of God's family. This familial bond calls us to love, support, and care for one another as we journey together in faith, reflecting love and unity. Family cares for family.

Rejoice!

The first command is to rejoice. Rejoicing is not merely about putting on a happy face despite life's challenges; it's about finding joy in the Lord regardless of our circumstances. Our joy rests in knowing that we serve a God who loves us deeply and is always with us. When we choose to rejoice, we shift our focus from our problems to the One who can overcome them.

Strive for Full Restoration

Next, Paul urges us to strive for full restoration - a call to mend what is broken in our lives and relationships. It's an invitation to bring healing and wholeness to the places that have been wounded. We are called to be agents of restoration in a broken world, seeking to reconcile and renew all that has been damaged by sin and brokenness.

Encourage One Another

Paul also encourages us to be a source of encouragement to one another. Life can be challenging, and we all face doubt, fear, and discouragement. But as a close-knit community, we have the privilege and responsibility to uplift each other with words of hope and support. When we extend a hand of encouragement, we reflect the love and compassion of our heavenly Father.

Be of One Mind

Being of one mind does not mean we all think the same way or agree on every issue. Instead, it calls us to unity in our devotion to Christ and our commitment to His mission. When we prioritize our shared faith and purpose, our differences become opportunities for growth and understanding rather than division.

Live in Peace

Lastly, Paul instructs us to live in peace. Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of God's shalom—the deep, abiding peace that transcends all understanding. In a world filled with turmoil, God calls us to be peacemakers. Our pursuit of peace should be marked by humility, forgiveness, and a commitment to reconciliation.

As we embrace these imperatives—rejoice, strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, and live in peace—we position ourselves to experience the profound promise that follows: "And the God of love and peace will be with you."

When we live out these principles in our lives and communities, we create an environment where the God of love and peace dwells. His presence is not just a comforting thought; it's a transformational reality. In His presence, we find the strength to overcome our challenges, the wisdom to navigate our differences, and the love to heal our wounds.

Reflection

  • How can you actively incorporate the principles of rejoicing, encouraging one another, and pursuing unity and peace in your relationships and community?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts filled with gratitude for the beautiful reminder that we are beloved brothers and sisters in Christ. May we earnestly seek to live out the principles of rejoicing, encouragement, unity, and peace in our daily lives and within our Church home. Help us to grow in our understanding of what it means to be part of Your divine family and empower us to reflect Your love and unity to the world. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
