Remain Faithful

INSIGHT

A few years back, God laid a vision on my heart. I was so excited and couldn’t wait for this dream to become a reality. I began to pray for God to show me signs and open doors. As I listened for His guidance, I felt like He was telling me to stay right where I was. What are You doing, God? Did I hear you wrong?  In this time of waiting, I had two options: I could check out due to frustration or remain faithful and lean in.

Though I didn’t understand what God was up to, I devoted time daily to being very intentional in my seeking. I did myself the favor of keeping a journal during this season. Most entries started out with, ‘Heavenly Father, I do not want to be where you have planted me…’ or ‘Show me what you would have me to do, Lord, to get out of here.’  There’s value in honesty, right?

As time went on, my search for ways to arrive at the destination settled, for I had discovered a joy of simply being with the Lord. As I sat with Jesus, there was no other place I longed to be. I relinquished the idea that my heart would be full once I got ahold of the vision and found my heart was being filled as God got ahold of me. He had become the vision.

This past Sunday we learned that to remain present is to remain hopeful, and we remain hopeful by remaining faithful. We all have a choice in how we respond to these current times of waiting. In choosing to remain faithful we are also choosing to remain obedient which speaks volumes; it shouts, “I trust You, Lord!” And those who trust in the Lord “find their strength renewed…” (Isaiah 40:31).

Our strength is being renewed in the presence of God because we’re not exerting our energy by trying to rush ahead. We are trusting that God is with us in the wait and so we remain.

REFLECTION

  • Destination thinking can oftentimes rob us of present-day joys. Do you find yourself thinking ahead? How does this make you feel?

  • Every moment matters in the process of redemption. What is God revealing to you in the wait?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, give us the courage to seek You in all situations and help us remain faithful. As we are strengthened by Your presence may our hearts be filled with contentment and our souls find rest. In Jesus name, Amen.
