Encourage One Another

Welcome to our "Finding Fullness" devotional series, a transformative two-week journey where we'll delve into the heart of the abundant life that Christ offers us. During our time together, we'll explore a collection of scriptures illuminating the path to embracing Christ's love, grace, and purpose. As Christ's followers, it's essential we not only understand these foundational truths intellectually but also trust them in our hearts and live them out in our daily lives.

In a world that celebrates individualism, we are called to be countercultural. The Scriptures remind us that our faith isn't just "me and Jesus." It's about "us in Jesus." From the beginning, God intended to create a family, a community of believers who would support, challenge, and uplift one another. We are designed for connection because our Creator is a relational God. Connection begins with consideration. With this in mind, we invite you to read Hebrews 10:24-25. As you do, pay attention and note any words, phrases, or themes that stand out to you.

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:24-25

As we journey through life with Christ, we are reminded that our walk with Him is profoundly personal. It's a journey of discovering the depths of His love, grace, and purpose for our lives. But amid our individual pursuit, we can't forget that this journey was never intended to be solitary. We need each other.

Just as a single ember can easily be extinguished but a fire burns brightly when many embers come together, our faith shines brightest in the context of community. We are called to spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Imagine the impact when a group of believers rallies around a common purpose—to show Christ's love to a culture desperate for it. Each member brings unique gifts, experiences, and perspectives that enrich the collective journey.

Community isn't just about what we can receive; it's also about what we can give. It's about being an encourager, a listener, and a shoulder to lean on. Pause for a moment to ponder the word "consider." This simple yet profound word holds a key that can unlock the transformative power of community within our walk with Christ.

To consider means more than a passing thought; it calls us to intentional reflection, deep contemplation, and an earnest examination of how we engage with one another. Unfortunately, we often rush through interactions, missing opportunities to encourage and uplift those around us. Yet, scripture invites us to slow down, consider, and intentionally think about how we can inspire one another toward love and good deeds.

Consideration involves empathy—stepping into another's shoes and understanding their joys, struggles, and aspirations. As we embark on this journey together, let's take the time to genuinely see each other, to listen with our hearts, and to extend grace and understanding. The unity of the body of Christ is strengthened when we consider the needs and well-being of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Take a few moments to consider someone in your faith community:

  • What could you do to spur them on toward love and good deeds? It could be a simple act of kindness, a word of encouragement, or offering a listening ear.

  • How can cultivating a spirit of consideration transform your interactions with this person?

  • Spend a few minutes praying for the person God placed on your heart.

In a culture where so many long for authentic connection, the Church has the incredible opportunity to be a beacon of hope and belonging. This deliberate thoughtfulness transforms our faith communities into sanctuaries of encouragement and renewal. Rather than rush through life focused on our agenda and needs, let us be people who pause, reflect, and extend the love of Christ through our intentional consideration.

Close your time with this prayer:

God, in the busyness of life, we often overlook the power of consideration. We come before you, asking for a heart that truly sees, hears, and understands those around us. Help us to set aside our distractions and selfish tendencies, and teach us to consider one another in the light of your love. May our actions reflect the heart of Christ as we intentionally inspire and uplift our brothers and sisters. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
