Connection with Christ

As the year draws to a close, it's time to pause and reflect on our spiritual journey – not as a performance review, but as an intimate conversation with the One who knows us most deeply. Today, we want to carve out some time and space to reflect on our most important relationship: our connection with Christ.

John 15:5

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

Philippians 3:10

"I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death."

How has your relationship with Christ evolved over these past twelve months? Picture yourself sitting quietly, opening your heart to God's gentle whispers, examining the intricate tapestry of your faith walk. This year has been a testament to God's incredible grace. Perhaps you've experienced mountaintop moments of profound connection, or maybe you've walked through valleys that tested your faith. Either way, Christ has been present – in the celebrations and the struggles, the victories and the challenges. He's been weaving His purpose through every single moment of your life.

Reflect on the meaningful moments that touched your heart this year. Maybe it was a breathtaking sunrise that brought a sense of peace, a meaningful conversation that offered new perspective, or a quiet moment when you felt unexpectedly supported by God during a challenging time. Think about those instances when life felt overwhelming, but Christ helped you find strength and hope. Consider how you've approached your personal growth and inner life this year.

Have your practices of reflection, reading, and quiet moments been a source of comfort or a challenge? These aren't about checking boxes or following rules, but about drawing closer to Christ and creating space to connect with what matters most. Like a vine nurturing its branches, Christ longs for an authentic, transformative relationship with you. It's not about perfection, but about persistent, honest connection.

Think about the ways you've grown – or perhaps the areas where you've struggled. Are there moments of spiritual dryness you've experienced? Places where you've felt distant from God? These are not failures, but invitations to deeper intimacy. God's love doesn't depend on your performance, but on His unchanging character. As you reflect, remember that transformation is a journey. Christ is constantly inviting you deeper – into understanding, into relationship, into His incredible purpose for your life. This moment of reflection is not about judgment, but about reconnection and renewed commitment.

Now, take some time to explore your connection with Christ through these reflective prompts. Consider how your relationship with God shaped your personal transformation and growth. You don't need to answer every question – simply allow yourself the space to honestly examine your spiritual journey:

  • In what specific moments this year did you feel most spiritually alive or most distant from your faith? Describe the circumstances and emotions.

  • How did your understanding of God's character or your personal relationship with Christ shift or deepen through this year?

  • Identify three significant personal transformations or insights you've experienced spiritually over the past twelve months. What recurring themes or patterns did you notice in your prayers this year?

Close today’s time by reciting the following prayer or by putting it in your own words:

Gracious Lord, as this year draws to a close, we come before You in humble reflection, acknowledging Your constant presence through our spiritual journey's mountaintop moments and valley shadows. Thank you for Your unchanging love that nurtures us. Even in moments of spiritual dryness We recognize the vine of Your love that has sustained us, grateful for Your transformative grace that has quietly worked within us. Search our hearts, revealing the depth of our connection with You - not by our achievements, but by Your persistent invitation to deeper intimacy. Amen.
