Prayer Guide
More than Supplies
Stuff the Bus does not end with the collection of school supplies, but serves as a starting point for connection. We encourage you to connect with our schools through volunteering and praying, too. They need us, and we need them. To begin the school year well, will you commit to praying over our schools for one week?
To assist you as you pray, we’ve created guided prayer prompts for each day of the school week.
Monday
Today’s Focus: Students, Teachers, & Staff
Today, spend some prayer over the students that will be embarking on a new school year. For a lot of students, school is a safe place. For some, school is a source of anxiety and fear. The first day can present lots of feelings. Feelings of excitement, nervousness, even fear. For students, pray that they would feel a sense of safety when walking through the doors of their classrooms. For teachers, pray for provision, strength, and guidance through this first day, first week, and over this year. Pray that they would carry out the work that God has entrusted them to do. Give administration eyes to see teachers, students, and communities as people when making decisions and when helping and leading those under their care. Pray for clarity of mind to lead to a flourishing school.
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Psalm 91:4
Tuesday
Today’s Focus: Classrooms, Playgrounds, Cafeterias, & Athletic Fields
Today, pray for the spaces that students, teachers, staff, and administration are in. Pray for safety over the schools, that there would be no violence, no bullying, no threats. Pray for friendships to flourish on the playground, pray for students to be full and nourished in the cafeteria, and pray for abundance of learning and opportunity to be in classrooms. Pray for athletes on fields that they would learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and extend a hand, even to an opponent.
You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.
Psalm 32:7
Wednesday
Today’s Focus: School Supplies
Today, pray for all the supplies that will be used throughout the year. Pray that there would be an abundance and that teachers and their classrooms would be provided for. Pray for pencils in little hands that are learning to write their names for the first time. Pray for the notebooks of students who are learning in their second language, filled with unfamiliar words. Pray for the tissues that will be used to wipe tears, towels used to wipe messes, and for erasers that will be used to correct mistakes, because lots will be made!
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
Psalm 23:1
Thursday
Today’s Focus: School Leadership
Pray for direction and clarity of mind for administration as they are leading the way for our schools. Pray that they would foster relationships with students and keep in proximity to classrooms so that they can lead with empathy and compassion. Pray that they listen, discern, and move in a direction that is going to allow for a flourishing school.
For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy. Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.
Proverbs 2:10-11
Friday
Today’s Focus: Homes, Parents, & Caregivers
Pray for protection over homes, parents and caregivers. Pray for peace in homes that feel chaotic, pray for wholeness in homes that are broken, pray for trust that parents could know that their student is ultimately held safe in the hands of the Father.
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Isaiah 26:3
